Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours Sails into 62nd Season

Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan (April 10, 2021) – Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours is pleased to announce new changes for its 62nd season. Starting May 15, passengers can board the iconic yellow and blue tour boats for a 90-minute tour through the Soo Locks to enjoy highlights of the American and Canadian shorelines.

Aboard the Nokomis or Le Voyageur, passengers experience both an up bound and down bound passage on the St. Mary’s River through the world’s largest parallel locking system that resolves the 21-foot variance between Lake Huron and Lake Superior. Passengers will also get a close-up view of the construction of the new “super lock.”

Also new for 2021, passengers can purchase advance tickets online for specific tour times at famoussoolocks.com. With e-tickets, passengers can proceed directly to the boats and tickets will be scanned upon boarding. Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours welcomes passengers to share photos from their tour experience on its new Facebook page (@famoussoolocks) for a chance to win monthly prizes.

The new 90-minute lock tour features live narration of the history and operation of the Soo Locks plus an overview of the new super lock under construction. Conveniently located next to the Valley Camp Museum Ship and within walking distance to the Tower of History, Famous offers free day parking for cars and motor coaches. Their bright yellow and blue tour boats are accessible and climate controlled with a full beverage and snack bar.

Dinner cruises are no longer offered due to Covid-19 limitations, but Famous offers a special lighthouse cruise on select summer Saturdays. For a true maritime adventure, this cruise offers live narration of the history for two lighthouses and a wide variety of navigational aids along the American and Canadian shorelines (no passports required). This four-and-a-half-hour cruise passes both up bound and down bound through the Soo Locks and allows for even more opportunities for close-up views of freighters.

After 60 years of operating in a joint venture with American-Canadian Lock Tours (formerly known as dock #1), Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours (formerly known as dock #2) is now operating independently.

Operating since 1959, Famous Soo Locks Boat Tours offers a variety of cruises aboard its iconic yellow and blue tour boats. Located in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan next to the historic Valley Camp Museum Ship, Famous makes a visit to the Upper Peninsula memorable with educational and relaxing maritime adventures.
