KINCHELOE, Mich. – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $300,000 to remove and replace a culvert on M-80 between South Gaines Highway and M-129 in Chippewa County.
M-80 will be closed and detoured between South Gaines Highway and M-129 beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Traffic will follow a posted detour on M-129 and M-28 to I-75. The detour is expected to be lifted Monday, Oct. 19, but intermittent lane closures will be needed after that for paving and other work. M-129 is now open, following the completion of a culvert replacement at Fletcher Creek.
Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to directly and indirectly support three jobs.
This work will replace a culvert that has reached the end of its useful service life, helping ensure continued safe and reliable operation of the roadway.
