Marquette County, Michigan. A Negaunee Township house fire Monday night left one man
dead and another with severe burns. Troopers and firefighters responded to the residence,
where a 67-year-old man was found deceased after the fire was extinguished. The cause of the
fire remains under investigation.
On October 5, 2026, at approximately 8:40 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP)
Negaunee Post were dispatched to a residence on M-35 in Negaunee Township for a structure
fire. Upon arrival, troopers found the residence engulfed in flames. A man who had made it out
of the residence told troopers that another man remained inside the home. Both men resided at
the residence.
Troopers attempted to enter the home but were unable to do so because of the heavy smoke
and flames. The Negaunee Township Fire Department arrived and made entry into the
residence while extinguishing the fire.
The man who escaped the fire was transported to a local hospital for treatment of severe burns.
Once the fire was extinguished, troopers and firefighters located a deceased 67-year-old man
inside the residence. His family was notified of his death.
The MSP Negaunee Post was assisted by the MSP Fire Investigation Unit, Negaunee Township
Fire Department, Negaunee Police Department, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue,
Negaunee Township Water Department, and Marquette County Central Dispatch.
