We have an important election coming up soon. Some may say that all elections are important, and I agree. But our country is facing challenges that I never thought I would see in my lifetime.
To touch on a few. ICE is terrorizing our country, and it isn’t just illegal immigrants. They are arresting anyone that they choose. ICE has very quietly launched a 45 – day crackdown in California, where agents have been told to go after anybody, just in time for the election and a good way to discourage voters from voting. It’s called “Operation Safe California,” and it was first reported by the Washington Examiner. I have a name for it: “Voter Intimidation.”
Is there such hate in our country that we vote for the very people who are allowing this to happen? In July and August of this year, around 100,000 people were arrested. People are being deported to unknown countries with the families that are left behind having no idea where they were sent. Children are being arrested too and separated from their families. Many of the people arrested that have been detained in so-called detention centers and deported have no criminal history.
Nearly 1,000 armed guards have descended on the United States Postal Service, deploying to at least 55 facilities across the country ahead of Election Day. Prosegur Security has a history of alleged human rights violations. They are currently in USPS facilities in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Indianapolis, Phoenix, San Diego, and Tampa. Just in time for the election.
An NBC News survey, says that 48 of the largest food banks found three-quarters more people needing assistance, while more than 80% say food and funding from the USDA has dropped.
In West Virginia’s coal country, a pantry director said he got 2.5 pounds of food per household in August. Think about that. People are hurting everywhere. Cuts to Medicaid are hurting the disabled, our seniors, children, single parents, and our veterans.
And to make things worse our president has decided he can buy our vote. He’s afraid that the Democrats will prevail in November, so he’s using his bullying and cheating tactics to get what he wants, and that is to keep the house and senate out of Democratic control. He’s afraid.
So here’s the thing: Are we as a country going to allow this to continue? Are you happy with what’s happening? Because if you are then don’t cry foul when your rights are taken away. We need to change this. We need to get ICE off our streets. We need to uncover their faces. If what they are doing were legal, they would have no reason to cover them.
We need to be able to care for the disabled, our veterans, seniors, single parents, and most importantly the children. Funds have been severely cut or taken away completely. Emotionally it’s taken a toll on the people who need our help the most. Are we going to continue watching the Republicans in office get richer while the rest of us get poorer?
A war was started, gas prices are soaring, food costs are outrageous, and we’re a nation that is hurting. This current administration shows such hate for our allies and for our people. Let’s put a stop to this. I hope this November you will vote to take back our country. Let’s vote for the people who will fight for the underdog. Let’s vote for the people who care about us as individuals, and more importantly let’s go back to being the “United” States of America.
