Sault girls improve to 7-0

The Sault High girls varsity basketball team trailed at halftime for the first time this season on Thursday night against Escanaba, but came back to improve to 7-0 on the season, as they defeated Escanaba, 60-51, at the Sault High Gymnasium. Lilli Kelgar had 17 points for the Blue Devils, while Lilly Alaspa added 13. Sault High will be at St. Ignace on Monday night for a key Straits Area Conference matchup. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO, with Dave Watson and Ray Bell, starting with the pregame show at 5:30 p.m.

In other girls’ basketball action from Thursday, Rudyard moved into first place in the Eastern Upper Peninsula, as they defeated Pickford, 64-58 at the Harris Kahl Gymnasium. Rudyard (4-3) hosts Newberry on Monday, while Pickford (4-2) hosts Cedarville on Monday. Brimley earned their first win of the year, as they knocked off DeTour, 54-14, at the Karl Parker Gymnasium. Brimley (1-3) will be at DeTour (0-5) on Monday .

One game in girls’ basketball on Friday as Cedarville (3-1) travels to Engadine (3-3) in EUP Conference play.

In boys’ basketball on Friday night, Sault High (1-5) will be at Newberry (2-5) in Straits Area Conference play. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO, with Casey Cook, starting with the pregame show around 7:00 p.m. Rudyard (6-0) looks to remain unbeaten and a top the Eastern Upper Peninsula Conference, as they travel to Pickford (1-4). Cedarville (3-2) is at Engadine (2-2) in another EUP Conference game.
