Bulldogs avenge another loss, heading to semifinals (with photos)

For the second straight week, the Rudyard Bulldog football team had a chance to avenge a regular season loss in the playoffs, and for the second straight week they did just that, and advanced to a state semifinal.

In 8-Player football from Friday night, in the Division 1, Region 1 final, the Rudyard Bulldogs, on the strength of four rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback EJ Suggitt, topped the Newberry Indians 28-0. Last week the Bulldogs topped Munising, avenging their other regular season loss.

Rudyard dominated the game on both sides of the ball, not allowing a point and gaining 268 yards on the ground. Suggitt would have 135 of those yards on 34 carries while Aiden Bickel added 104 yards rushing on 12 carries.

Tate Besteman led the Bulldogs defensively with 9 total tackles, while Eli Sprague had eight tackles, and Bickel six.

Rudyard (9-2) advances to an 8-player Division 1 semifinal on Saturday in Suttons Bay (11-0) at 2 p.m. You can hear that game on Country 105, with Dave Watson on the call, starting with the pregame show around 1:45.

The other semifinal in 8-Player Division 1 will be played on Friday, as Martin will travel to Adrian Lenawee Christian. The 8-Player Division 1 State Final game will be played at the Superior Dome in Marquette on Saturday, November 20.

Around high school football in an 8-Player Division 2 regional final, Powers North Central crushed Crystal Falls Forest Park, 65-8, and will host Marion in a D2 semifinal Saturday afternoon. The other D2 semifinal sees Colon at Au Gres-Sims.

In 11-player football in Division 8, Beal City tops Iron Mountain in their district final, 41-6. Beal City advances to host Carson City-Crystal in their regional final. In Division 7, Ishpeming-Westwood edged out Charlevoix, 30-28, they will travel to Traverse City St. Francis this Saturday for their regional final. St. Francis all over McBain this past Saturday, 55-13. Division 6, Calumet over Negaunee 24-19, they will travel to Standish-Sterling for their regional final on Friday. Kingley in Division 5, over Clare 32-6, they will visit Frankenmuth in their regional final. In Division 4, Cadillac knocked off Whitehall 24-13, and will be at Hudsonville Unity Christian on Friday for their regional final. In Division 2, Traverse City Central routed Bay City Western 55-18, they will travel to Caldonia for their regional final.
