MORAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) – One person is dead after a motorcycle and a Jeep crashed on US-2 west of I-75 in Moran Township on Thursday.
Around 12:20 p.m. Thursday, a motorcycle driven by a 62-year-old man hit a Jeep driven by a 39-year-old man, both from St. Ignace, according to a Friday morning press release from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.
The release says the Jeep pulled out of a local restaurant on US-2 and into the path of the westbound motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The Jeep driver was not hurt.
The crash is still under investigation, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors. The driver of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.
The St. Ignace Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Michigan Department of Transportation, MSP St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie Posts, Straits EMS and St. Ignace Fire assisted at the scene.
