MACKINAC ISLAND, MICH. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is announcing the arrest of Morgan Charles Mitchell, 24 of Dalhart, Texas, for aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, using a computer to commit a crime, and capturing an image of an unclothed person.
Mitchell was arrested following an investigation that was initiated by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the ICAC Task Force when it was learned that Mitchell may have accessed and shared illicit content on the internet. At the time the tip was received, Mitchell was working seasonally on Mackinac Island. A search warrant was executed on his residence and digital evidence was seized.
Following the execution of the search warrant, Mitchell left Mackinac Island and returned to Texas. In collaboration with Texas law enforcement agencies Mitchell was located and arrested. He waived extradition and was transported back to Michigan.
Mitchell was charged with five counts of child sexually abusive material – aggravated possession, five counts of using a computer to commit a crime, and three counts of capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person. Mitchell was arraigned in the 92 nd District Court of Mackinac County on Monday, August 17.
The ICAC Task Force received assistance from the Mackinac County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, as well as the Dalhart Police Department and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, both located in Texas.
