CHAC is honored to have received $15,000 in grant funding from the Mackinac Island Community Foundation through the following funds:
· Mackinac Island Community Fund
· Beaumont Fund
· Donald and Valeria Bortz Health and Medical Fund
· Health and Medical Care Fund
The Community Foundation’s Spring Grant is funding salaries and operating expenses to ensure uninterrupted services through the end of 2026. CHAC’s certified counselors will be able to provide unbiased, compassionate assistance navigating state and federal systems to ensure successful enrollment into healthcare coverage.
Mackinac Island Community Foundation funding will allow CHAC to reach Mackinac County residents. CHAC services are more important than ever, given the current changes at the federal level. We have more people at risk for a loss of healthcare coverage than ever. Recent reductions in Medicaid eligibility and benefits under the One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBA), coupled with the loss or reduction of Earned Income Tax Credits, have significantly increased financial instability among low-income families. Vulnerable households face heightened risk of losing health coverage, delaying care, and experiencing worsening health outcomes.
CHAC programing is critical to mitigating these impacts by ensuring eligible individuals receive timely enrollment assistance, understand their coverage options, and maintain continuous access to care. Without targeted outreach and application support, many families affected by policy changes will remain uninsured due to administrative barriers, lack of awareness, or confusion regarding new eligibility requirements.
CHAC is committed to improving access to healthcare coverage for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac Counties. Make sure to mark your calendars to review your healthcare coverage options during Open Enrollment. CHAC will be ready to help your review your options this fall.
