A happy reunion! An 11-year-old boy was reunited with his mother Tuesday evening in Luce County after being lost in the woods for about two hours.
Conservation officers received a call from local dispatch at 7:29 p.m. that a child who was running cross-country near the Canada Lakes Pathway trailhead had been separated from his team and was missing for about one hour.
In partnership with Luce County Sheriff’s Department, local conservation officers quickly gathered information from community members and assembled a search and rescue. The officers deployed pairs of volunteer searchers to begin strategically searching the area.
The boy was located, safe and healthy by the first set of volunteer searchers within 45 minutes.
Conservation officers live and work in the communities they patrol. Combined with their advanced search and rescue training, they have a deep knowledge of the terrain and how to safely navigate it to look for key elements of missing people.
