Hendry hat trick paces Eagles over Rock

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – The Soo Eagles Nolan Hendry scored a natural hat trick in the first period as they held on for a 6-2 win over the Timmins Rock at the Pullar Stadium on Friday night.

Darby McCarthy provided a pair of goals, while both Drew Dellies and Jack Paweski had 2 assists each in the home win.

Hendry got going early as he picked up a puck just above the goal line off a deflected shot, and he beat Rock starter Patrick Boivin on a power play marker 1:09 in.

Hendry got his second midway through the period on a turnover at the Rock blue line, he snuck around Boivin’s pad and beat him to make it 2-0 Eagles.

Hendry, the Milton, Ontario product, finished the hat trick after a nice short pass into the slot from Jack Paweski which made it 3-0 at 18:35.

The Rock, countered early in the second period as Mason Svarich netted his 31st on a power play only 17 seconds in to make it a 3-1 hockey game as he ripped a shot from the left side over the shoulder of Eagles starter Anthony Zolezzi.

The visitors cut the lead to one when Mason Svarich found Nolan Ring in the slot and again the Rock beat Zolezzi high and it was 3-2 at 5:29.
