SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League (NOJHL) announced Monday that goaltender Declan McNamara (Powassan Voodoos) as well as forwards Nathaniel Kohler (Soo Eagles) and Maxx Hamelin (Timmins Rock) have been named its Rogers 3 Stars of the Week, for the period ending September 27.
Declan McNamara, (G) Powassan Voodoos: An impressive start to his NOJHL career, McNamara won both of his appearances, including posting a shutout in his debut while only allowing one power play marker to get by him in the other.
The 19-year-old Sudbury product wrapped up his initial week in the league with a crisp 0.50 goals-against average and an equally sharp .981 save percentage.
McNamara begins his arrival in Powassan on a winning note and is an alumnus of the Sudbury U18 Wolves in the AAA Great North Hockey League.
Nathaniel Kohler, (F) Soo Eagles: Kohler was very efficient over the weekend helping the Eagles kick off the home-ice portion of their regular season slate at Pullar Stadium.
Hailing from Palatine, Ill., the 17-year-old forward scored once and helped set-up two others as part of a triumph versus Blind River Friday, then notched another marker Saturday in a third period rally over Espanola.
Kohler joined the Eagles after two seasons in the Team Illinois system skating in the U15 and U16 AAA ranks.
Maxx Hamelin, (F) Timmins Rock: Hamelin’s contributions with Timmins over the time frame helped his side collect five of a possible six points in the overall NOJHL standings.
His efforts saw the 19-year-old from Winnipeg, Man., tally three times in regulation, plus once in his first shootout attempt of the campaign, then assist on a game-winner.
Averaging over a point-per-game with 38 in his first 28 contests with the Rock, Hamelin played his minor hockey in his hometown where he contributed nicely with multiple Winnipeg Bruins AAA teams. He currently sits second in NOJHL scoring with a dozen points.
