Michael Peltier

Michael Stephen Peltier, 60 of Pellston passed away on December 12, 2022, at his home.

Michael was born on February 4, 1962, in Pontiac MI, the son of Donald and Phyllis (McGuire) Peltier and graduated from the Lake Orion Community High School in 1980.  Michael then attended and graduated from Northern Michigan University with degrees bachelor’s in criminology and science.  Michael served in the US Army in both the Reserves and Active Duty and proudly served his country during Operation Desert Storm.

Michael worked for the Michigan Dept of Corrections, retiring after 28 years as a Corrections Sergeant.  He then continued serving his community by serving as a Zoning Officer for Cheboygan County.

On May 14, 2011, Michael married the love of is life, the former Yvonne Plagens, in Alanson and the two made their home in Pellston.  He truly cherished his wife, Yvonne, and always held her hand and opened doors for her.  In addition, he always made sure she had a full tank of gas and a flashlight whenever she traveled.

Michael enjoyed and missed deeply his dogs Rocky and Lexi, traveling, guns, attending gun shows, hunting, and boating on his pontoon with his family and friends.  He was an avid reader and loved watching football and yelling at the tv during it.  He was the truest of friends and would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He had so much fun bantering with friends on the phone, either about football or whatever topic occurred to him.  He was so wonderful to be around, his laughter was so contagious.  His home is now very silent.  He was truly the best; the best husband, friend, neighborhood’s watch guy, co-worker and man.  Yvonne has heard from so many over the past few days and the reoccurring message everyone had was that he always had their back and could always be counted on.

He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; his much loved and respected aunts and uncles, Diane and Larry Detter, Nancy and Dennis Peltier, Dolores and Duane Peltier, and Doris and Arlan Hughes; mother-in-law, Maesene Birch; sister, Michelle Prost; step-daughter, Ashley (Bill) Williams and by their son, Mason; sister-in-law,  Sharon (Randy) Rose ( who he swore she made the best apple pie and he could fix anything); brother-in-law, Neil Plagens (even if he liked U of M); his adored nieces, Kristin (Brandon) Hatfield and Sara Rose; great-nieces, Maggie, Molly, and Charlotte; great-nephews, Lane, Jeremy, and William; and by too many to cousins and close friends to list.

A service will be held at Sparks – Griffin Funeral Home, 111 East Flint Street, Lake Orion, on Wednesday, December 21st at 1:00. The family realizes that due to distance and weather, friends and family are not expected to travel.  His co-workers and friends are planning something in Sault St. Marie in the future.

Yvonne will forever cherish the not long enough time she had with him.

Those wishing to honor Michael’s memory may wish to donate to either the Humane Society or to the Pellston Food Pantry.
