SAULT STE. MARIE, Ontario and Mich. – There won’t be any tricks, just treats, at the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge this Halloween, as tolls get rolled back for 24 hours.
From midnight to midnight on Oct. 31, passenger vehicle tolls at the bridge will get a historical throwback to a rate of $1.50 (US), reflecting the toll charged in the mid-1960s. The Canadian rate will be $2 (CA). The bridge opened to traffic on Halloween 1962.
“This is an opportunity to recognize and support the communities we share,” said Bridge Director Peter Petäinen. “We’re going back to opening prices to recognize the longstanding connection between the two Saults, making the bridge more accessible on both sides of the border. The bridge is here, as we have been since 1962, and we’re proud to continue supporting that important link for both Saults equally, now and into the future.”
The bridge has facilitated more than 107 million crossings since 1962.
