Homer Shute

Homer Allen Shute, age 95, of Rudyard, MI passed away on November 21, 2022, at the White-Wiles Home.

Homer was born on November 14, 1927, in Ozark, Michigan to the late Richard and Georgina (Mahl) Shute.  He was a graduate of Rudyard High School with the class of 1945.

Homer served his country in the United States Navy during WWII on-board the USS Henrico & USS Princeton CV-37.  On May 22, 1954, he married Margaret Barens in Rudyard, MI.  He was a member of the Rudyard Lions Club and the VFW Post #4905.  He was also a Volunteer Ambulance Driver for 19 years. Homer served on the Rudyard Township Board for several years and was Rudyard Township Supervisor from 1984-1988. While being Township Supervisor Homer was responsible for Sewer, Water and Natural Gas coming into Rudyard. Homer worked in Trout Lake for the County Road Commission before starting his own business: Shute Oil Company. 

Homer enjoyed hunting and being at his camp, bowling, playing cards (especially Pinochle), and playing fast pitch softball.  Homer coached both boys and girls softball throughout the years.  He was instrumental in getting the ball fields at the Rudyard Township Athletic Complex.

Homer is survived by his wife: Margaret Shute of Rudyard, MI: his children: David (Denise) Shute and Darlene Witmer both of Rudyard, MI; seven grandchildren: Josh, Trisha, Jordan, Justin, Brandy, Amber, and Alyse; and 16 great grandchildren.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Eva Lovegrove, George Shute, John Shute, Richard Shute, Mabel Jack, and Jimmy Shute.

According to Homer’s wishes, no public services will be held.
