Robert John Andress

Robert John Andress, age 87, of Hessel, Michigan, died at the Ball Hospice House of the EUP in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on September 29, 2022. He was born on Mackinac Island, Michigan, on March 8, 1935, to Robert John and Gladys (Chapman) Andress.

Robert grew up on Mackinac Island and attend Mackinac Island Schools and the surrounding area schools until he graduated. He joined the United States Marines and served for a few years before returning to Mackinac Island. Robert met the love of his life Catherine Early in the 1950’s. They married on May 20, 1960, on Mackinac Island and started their family. He bartended and worked for B&C Dray Line until he started into construction in the early 1970s. He was a part of the finish construction crew for many years. Robert and Catherine decided to move to Hessel in the late-1990s once he was semi-retired. After a few more years, Robert fully retired. After retirement, Robert could be found on the golf course.

Robert was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church and St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

Robert had a great passion for golfing. He also enjoyed attending church and fishing when he was able.

Robert is survived by his son, William Louis, and wife Therese Andress of Mackinac Island; daughters, Kathy Andress of Mackinac Island, and Bobbie Andress of St. Ignace, Michigan; grandchildren, Miranda Andres-Morse, Amanda Falkenberg, Brittany Falkenberg, and John Andress and several step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Rogers of St. Ignace; stepdaughters, Linda (Joe) Horn and Sharon (Thomas) Gallagher; step-son John Bagbey; step daughters-in-law, Gwendolyn Bagbey and Mary Bagbey.

Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; parents, Robert and Gladys; daughter, Kimmy P. Andress; stepchildren, Richard Bagbey, Dan Bagbey,; brother-in-law, Calvin Rogers; sister, Anna J. Putman; brothers, David (Martha) Andress, and Richard Andress.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Ball Hospice House of the EUP, 308 W. 12th Ave, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.

There will be a private family graveside service.

Final resting place will be at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery on Mackinac Island.
