High school basketball districts begin this week (with Friday’s game photos)

It’s the second season in high school basketball across the state of Michigan, starting on Monday night, as district playoff basketball action commences.

In girls’ basketball on Monday night, Engadine will be at Newberry in a Division 4, District 101 semifinal, at 7:00 pm. The winner will face Rudyard in the district final on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The Brimley girls’ basketball team will not be participating in the  postseason.

Boys’ district action in the Eastern Upper Peninsula will begin on Tuesday in Division 4, District 102, as DeTour will host Mackinac Island at 7 pm. The winner of that game will advance to the district semifinal at Mackinaw City, on Thursday at 7 pm. The other district semifinal sees Cedarville travel to Pickford, on Thursday at 6 pm. You can hear that game on Country 105, with Scott Nason, starting with the pregame show at 5:45 pm. The district final is scheduled for Saturday at 7 pm.

Girls’ basketball districts will begin at Purple Palace in Pickford on Wednesday, as the Panthers play host to District 102 in Division 4. Cedarville will face Mackinac Island at 5:30 pm, followed by DeTour and Pickford around 7:00 pm. You can hear both games on Country 105, with Scott Nason, starting with the pregame show around 5:15 pm. The district final is slated for Pickford on Friday at 7:00 pm.

The Sault High girls’ basketball team will open up district play on Wednesday, as they take on Kalkaska in Division 2, District 34, at Cheboygan. You can hear that game on 1230 WSOO with Dave Watson and Ray Bell, starting with the tip-off show at 5:15 pm.

The St. Ignace girls, in Division 3, District 67, will open up district play on Wednesday,  at they will be at Harbor Springs, in the district semifinal at 6:00 p.m. The Saints boys’ team will begin district play on Thursday as they host Johannesburg-Lewiston at 6:00 pm.

The Sault High Blue Devils and Brimley Bays boys’ basketball teams will not be participating in the postseason, due to COVID-19 protocols. This has changed the schedule for the Division 4, District 101, as semifinal games will be played on Thursday. Rudyard will host Ojibway Charter at 7:00 pm, while Engadine is at Newberry at 7:00 pm. The district final is scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 pm.

“The Game” on ESPN 1400 will not be heard tonight and next Monday night due to playoff basketball.
