Obituary For Gloria Vallier Kemp

Gloria Vallier Kemp, age 79, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on October 1, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on August 5, 1947, in Manistique, Michigan, to Marvin and Leatha (Patterson) Vallier.

Gloria graduated from Manistique High School. While working for Lake Superior State University, she earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration. She later temporarily moved to Mt. Pleasant, where she attended Central Michigan University and earned her Master of Business Administration.

Gloria was a gifted artisan who enjoyed playing games with family and friends and traveling whenever and wherever possible. She enjoyed her work at Lake Superior State University and with the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She worked for Kewadin Casinos for more than twenty years before moving into the governmental side of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, where she continued working until her retirement.

Gloria believed that learning was fun and continued to expand her knowledge throughout her career. She earned certifications in various fields depending on the position she held.

Gloria will be deeply missed by many, especially her son, Marvin “Butch.”

Gloria is survived by her son, Marvin “Butch” Kemp of Sault Ste. Marie; sisters, Joan Thompson of Manistique, Susan (Chuck) Truitt of Chatsworth, Georgia, Sandra Brown of Centralia, Washington; brothers, Wayne (LuAnn) Vallier of Manistique and Earl (Sue Thayer) Vallier of Clare, Michigan and St. James City, Florida; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, C. Ernest Kemp; parents, Marvin and Leatha.

Per Gloria’s wishes there will be no services held.
