Obituary For Angela Maria Scott-Henley

Angela Maria Scott-Henley, age 68, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, after a short illness with colon cancer. She was born on November 7, 1955, in London England, to Richard and Idalia (Gruodis) Scott.

Angela moved with her family to Canada in her early childhood. She grew up in Toronto before moving to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she spent the next decade and became fluent in Portuguese. After a brief return to Canada, she settled in the United States, where she embraced a wide range of adventures and life experiences from a home base in Massachusetts, and later in Northern Michigan.

Capturing her essence in a few short lines is a challenge as Angela was a woman of diverse passions that she committed whole-heartedly to. She had a profound love of animals, an independent and eclectic spirit, and held a deep appreciation for kayaking, opera, literature, environmentalism, and philosophy. Her ability to engage in meaningful conversations on a seemingly limitless range of topics -televised sports excluded- made her a source of creative and thought-provoking insights to anyone fortunate enough to share time with her.

Angela left few stones unturned and leaves us with inspiration on how to make the most of the time we have. She will be truly missed.

Angela leaves behind her loving partner, John Cook; nephew, David (Kristina Vogel) Iles; niece, Lauren (Kevin Philipow) Iles; beloved furry companions, Matey and Skipper; and a host of extended family and close friends she shared many adventure-filled memories with.

Angela was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Henley; parents, Richard and Idalia; and sister, Vivienne Scott.

Family and friends are invited to attend a small Celebration of Life at the Hessel Marina, 3023 W. Lake St, Hessel, MI on Saturday, October 5th at 2:00 pm.

Her family extends a special thank you to her medical team and hospice care providers in Indianapolis, Indiana and Sault Ste. Marie. To her dear friend, Leslie Askwith, we thank you for the support and strength you provided to Angela and the family throughout her illness and final days. Your kindness and shared memories have brought comfort during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Angela’s memory to the Chippewa County Animal Shelter, 3660 S Mackinac Trail, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 or the Algoma Conservatory of Music, 75 Huron St, Sault Ste. Marie, ON P6A 5P4, Canada.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. --Jack London--
