63-year-old driver crashes into gas station after almost striking MSP Trooper refueling

A Mt. Pleasant Post trooper was fueling her patrol car at a gas station in Weidman about 1:55 a.m. on 8/31/26 when she observed a red pickup truck being operated erratically through the gas station parking lot.

The vehicle nearly struck two diesel fuel pumps, the fully marked patrol vehicle and the trooper before swerving toward the convenience store building.

The pickup crashed into the gas station, striking the coolers located in the rear of the building. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

The driver, a 63-year-old Weidman man was arrested for suspected impaired driving and lodged at the Isabella County Jail.

This incident is a reminder that impaired driving can turn a routine trip into a potentially life-threatening situation in a matter of seconds. If you’ve been drinking, don’t drive. Find a sober ride, call someone you trust, or make other arrangements. It’s not worth the risk.
