Structure Fire on E. 10th Avenue

At approximately 4:00 pm on May 8th, 2026, the Sault Ste. Marie Fire and Police Departments
responded to a report of structure fire at 1924 E. 10th Ave. within the City of Sault Ste. Marie. Upon
arrival within 5 minutes of dispatch, a home, well involved with fire and smoke products, was
encountered. Fire was controlled quickly, and no occupants were home when first responders
arrived. The location of the nearest fire hydrant was over 2000 foot away from the home, but no
loss of water supply was noted during the quick extinguishment of the fire. Extensive overhaul was
performed to find deep seated areas of fire within the structure. All units cleared the scene by 8:00
pm. No reports of any injuries related to the fire.

The fire origin and cause investigation was completed and while the area of origin was identified,
but the cause is still undetermined. There were no functioning smoke alarms within the home, we
want to remind residents of the importance of functioning smoke alarms within their residence.

The Sault Ste. Mare Fire and Police Departments were aided by the: Sault Tribal Police, Chippewa
County Central Dispatch, Cloverland, DTE and the Sault Ste. Marie Water and DPW departments.
