Police find Homicide and Officer Involved Shooting are related

Wexford County, Michigan. MSP is releasing further details related to an incident it is
investigating that is believed to have preceded an officer involved shooting in the City of
Cadillac.

On January 2, 2026, at approximately 4:25 p.m., the Michigan State Police (MSP) Seventh
District Special Investigation Section (SIS) was requested to investigate an officer involved
shooting in the City of Cadillac. It was reported that an officer from the Cadillac Police
Department (CPD) had located a vehicle that was believed to have been stolen during an
alleged home invasion and robbery, which had occurred earlier on January 2, 2026, in Wexford
County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the CPD officer initiated a traffic stop of the
suspected stolen vehicle on Laurel Street. During the traffic stop, the adult male driver produced
a handgun and pointed it at the lone CPD officer. The CPD officer responded by drawing his
firearm and shooting the male driver. The CPD officer was not injured during this incident. The
male subject was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The female passenger in the
vehicle was unharmed and was taken into custody as part of the investigation.

During this same time, the Wexford County Sheriff’s Office had responded to investigate a
report of a home invasion and robbery. During that preliminary investigation, a deceased adult
male was found on the premises. The deceased male’s manner of death appears to be criminal
in nature.

Investigators from all involved agencies were able to collaborate and determine that the
deceased male from the CPD traffic stop appears to be the same individual who is suspected of
committing the homicide, home invasion, and robbery at the residence in Wexford County. MSP
detectives are leading the homicide, home invasion, and robbery investigation, and continues to
conduct the officer involved shooting investigation. Both investigations are ongoing. No
additional suspects are believed to be at large.
