Brimley Woman Arrested on Felony Charges Following Traffic Stop

Chippewa County, Michigan. A 45-year-old Brimley woman has been arraigned on felony drug
and obstruction charges following a traffic stop in which she allegedly resisted troopers and was
found with suspected methamphetamine and open intoxicants.

On October 16, 2025, at approximately 3:39 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police
(MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post stopped a vehicle for having defective equipment on M-221 near
Depot Street in Brimley. During the traffic stop, the troopers contacted the vehicle’s occupants
and observed evidence of open intoxicants in the vehicle, which allegedly belonged to the
female passenger. When troopers investigated further, the woman began physically resisting
the troopers. The troopers safely took her into custody, although one of the troopers suffered a
minor injury while securing her.

The troopers’ further investigation resulted in locating open intoxicants and suspected
methamphetamine in the vehicle which allegedly belonged to the female subject. It was also
confirmed that the woman had a warrant for her arrest out of Chippewa County.
45-year-old Melissa Lyons from Brimley, Michigan was arrested for Possession of
Methamphetamine, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, Open Intoxicants in a Vehicle,
and the separate warrant for her arrest. Lyons was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail for the
offenses.

On October 17, 2025, Lyons was arraigned in the 91 st District Court on one count of Possession
of Methamphetamine, one count of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and one count of
Open Intoxicants in a Vehicle. She was given a personal recognizance bond with conditions.
She is next due in court on October 30, 2025. The defendant is considered innocent unless
proven guilty.
