PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — Two people were arrested after a wife shot and wounded her husband in Portage Township, according to the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to the Curtis Travelers Lodge in Portage Township Tuesday about 4:33 p.m. after a report of a man being shot by his wife. While deputies were headed to the scene they received additional information that there was a physical altercation still taking place between two men and that one of the men and a female fled the scene in a black Jeep. The Jeep was last seen headed westbound. The male gunshot victim was still at the scene and conscious.
The male victim suffered a “graze” wound to the side of his head. He was treated at the scene by Portage Township EMS and then transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital for additional treatment. The man is expected to recover from his injury.
The black Jeep and two suspects were found in a nearby residence. Law enforcement officers were able to make contact with the male and female suspects and took them into custody without incident.
Both suspects are lodged in the Mackinac County Jail pending criminal charges by the prosecutor.
The incident remains under investigation by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office.
