Car-Jacking and chase ends in arrest of suspect

OTSEGO COUNTY, MI. On Sunday, June 25, 2023, at approximately 7:15 p.m. a trooper from the
Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post responded to an attempted carjacking and stolen pickup truck
in the Waters area. The suspect, 27-year-old Donald Wade North from Alma, was later arrested after
leading officers on a pursuit in Cheboygan County.

North attempted to carjack a CPL holder at a gas station in Waters. After North assaulted the CPL
holder, the CPL holder displayed his firearm and North fled. North found an unlocked pickup truck in the
parking lot with the keys inside. He stole the truck and left at a high rate of speed. The owner of the
vehicle called 911. A BOL was sent out with a description of the stolen truck. A trooper from the MSP
Gaylord Post located the vehicle northbound on I-75 south of Indian River. The trooper followed the
vehicle until an officer from the Tuscarora Police Department took position behind him. The trooper
activated his emergency lights and siren. The truck did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

An officer from the Mackinaw City Police Department successfully deployed stop sticks while in an
inactive construction zone on I-75 near Hebron Town Hall Road. Deputies from the Cheboygan County
Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit. The pursuit continued until the trooper performed a PIT (Precision
Immobilization Technique) maneuver and the stolen vehicle was disabled. North was taken into custody
and lodged in the Otsego County Jail.

North was arraigned this afternoon in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on one count Attempted
Carjacking, and one count Unlawful Driving Away of Motor vehicle. He was given a $100,000 PR bond.
He will be facing additional charges in Cheboygan County.
