Indians welcome Madison for exciting weekend of AAA hockey

The Madison Capital visited the Sault to play a three-game series against the Soo Indians with two games at the Pullar Stadium and one at the Taffy Abel Arena.

Friday night was the first game of the weekend, and the Indians opened the scoring late in the first period when Sabre Koleber won the battle for the rebound in front of the net scoring, assisted by Brayden Grange and Gabe Fisher.  The second period both teams played even with no one able to score, however in the third Drew Dellies beat their netminder high from Grange and Peirson Zittel to go up by two and then less than a minute later Evan Hoglund lit the lamp from Grange to put the Indians up 3-0.  Madison rallied back to score, but with their net empty Koleber picked up a pass from Grange and Fisher scoring his second of the game for the final score of 4-1.  Justin Bamberger earned the victory in net.

Saturday it was the Capitals that start the scoring in the first period, then adding two more before Luke Jimenez won the race for the puck then beating their netminder to get the Indians on the board.  Madison capitalized on a late powerplay to go back up by three and in the third neither team could generate any offense for a final of 4-1 Capitals.  Cam Labadie had the duties in net.

Sunday morning in the final game of the series Madison scored first again midway through the first period, but Domick Cicco found a rebound and put it behind their goalie to even the score with the assists going to Caden McDonald and Zach Sweitzer.  The second period had both teams up and down the ice without scoring sending the game into the third period tied at 1.  The Capitals generated two goals within 1:30 midway through the third period to get up 3-1, the Indians pressed hard but it wasn’t until :37 seconds left on the clock and with the extra attacker Kyle Stevens tipped an Owen Hendrikson shot with McDonald also assisting to climg within one. Unfortunately, it was too little too late as time ran out giving Madison the 3-2 win.  Justin Bamberger was between the pipes for the Indians.

The Indians will now get on the road to Troy Michigan for the MAHA Tier 1 winter showcase next Friday facing Honeybaked, Bigby, and Victory Honda.
