After spending last weekend traveling Wisconsin splitting series against the Madison Capitals and the Green Bay Bobcats, the Soo Indians stayed home this past weekend to host Belle Tire to a two-game weekend series at the Pullar Stadium
This past Saturday afternoon the Indians met up with Belle Tire at the Pullar Staduim in MAHA league action. Belle Tire opened the scoring late in the first period to take the lead until Lucca Weinkauf took a pass from Caden McDonald and Jack Jimenez and beat the Belle Tire netminder to even the score at 1-1. Less than a minute later Belle Tire regained the lead on the power play. In the third both teams traded opportunities but neither team could capitalize and Belle Tire earned the win with a final score of 2-1. Cam LaBadie turned away 38 shots in a losing effort.
Sunday’s rematch started with the Soo’s Treyce Moran scoring midway through the first period from Caden McDonald and Brayden Grange. Sorthly afterward Grange scored on an assist from Lucca Weinkauf and McDonald to go up by 2. Belle Tire fought back late in the first and early in the second to even things up at 2. Early in the third Belle Tire scored to take the lead, but the Soo kept fighting back hard and Moran scored his second of the game from Grange and McDonald to tie the game up. Less than 20 seconds later Belle Tire scored to what turned out to be the game winner for a score of 4-3. Justin Bamberger had the duties in net for the Indians.
Next action for the team will be next Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Lake Forest Illinois to play Lake Forest Prep Academy.
