Donald Reid Crawford II

Donald Reid Crawford II, age 51, of Goetzville, Michigan, died unexpectedly on May 14, 2022, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was born July 1, 1970, in Howell, Michigan.

As a young child, Don lived in the Eastern Upper Peninsula and went to school in Cedarville, Michigan, until sixth grade and then his family moved to Hanover where he graduated from Hanover High School. He earned an Associate Degree in Farm Management from Michigan State University. He worked on farms and as farm manager for a few years. He began working as a truck driver in 1987, and for the next twenty years, he was a long-distance truck driver, driving from coast to coast. He returned to the Eastern Upper Peninsula and worked for X-Factor Construction until recently when he started at Pickford Township as lead maintenance manager. He loved this new job!

Don was a dedicated AA member and lead speaker of the DeTour AA Program.

Don was always busy, either tinkering in his garage or out in his yard. He enjoyed the outdoors: gardening, fishing, kayaking, playing in the snow, and taking care of his goat, Fast Freddy. He loved the time he spent with his family.

Don is survived by his wife, Hailey Major Crawford; children, Donna Crawford Adams of Texas, Tessa (Thomas) Crawford of Indiana; Sam (Rhiannon) Crawford of Indiana, Christopher Crawford of Indiana, Heidi (Jordan) Crawford of Goetzville, Ethan Crawford of Indiana, Ebey Major Crawford of Goetzville, and Tanden Decker of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; mother Rose Anna Jones, of Cedarville, Michigan; stepmother, Beth Crawford of Pickford; siblings, Jeremy (Jean) Crawford of Hessel, Michigan, Melissa Smith of Cedarville, Joseph Smith of Kinross, Michigan, Rose Smith of Cedarville, and Jon Kott of Raber, Michigan; stepsister, Heather (Jerome) London of Sault Ste Marie, Michigan; mother-in-law, Jody Decker of Sault Ste. Marie; grandparents-in-law, Michael and Kathy Decker of Escanaba, Michigan; brothers-in-law, Aaron Septka, Zach Major, Kevin Major, Kenneth Major; and sisters-in-law, Samantha Major, Heather Major, and Lacy Major.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Donald Reid Crawford; grandparents, Reid and Jean Crawford, Rose and Jerry Griffin, and Larry and Donna Weston; and stepfather, Casey Jones.

A gathering to celebrate Don’s life with music, food, and stories will be held Friday, June 3 from 12:00 Noon until 6:00 PM at the Glen Gough Memorial Township Park in Pickford. Please dress casually.
