Wanda Marie Sawyers

Wanda Marie Sawyers, age 81, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on March 24, 2022, at the Ball Hospice House, in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born October 1, 1940, in Pickford Township, Michigan, to Samuel J. and Violet U. (Bawks) Cruickshank.

Wanda was born and raised at her parent’s home on Rockview Road. She attended Pickford Elementary and graduated from Pickford High School. It was there she met Vern Sawyers and they were married on February 14,1960 at the Pickford Presbyterian Church. They made their home on the family farm in Bruce Township and raised three children. Wanda was a stay-at-home mom and very practicing in her son’s activities, especially during the elementary school years. After her sons were raised, she went to work serving as the Bruce Township clerk for many years.

Wanda was an active member of the Donaldson Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking during her “stay at home years”. Wanda enjoyed hockey and traveled all over as a “hockey mom” for her sons and for other players when the parents could not make the trip. She was a fan of the Detroit Lions, Red Wings, and Tigers, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and the RFD Channel. Wanda leaves behind many who will miss her.

Wanda is survived by sons, Jeff (Denise) Sawyers of Hazard, Kentucky, Steven (Danielle) Sawyers of Sault Ste. Marie, and Douglas (Mary) Sawyers of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, Ian Sawyers, Jon (Lauran) Sawyers, Ryan Sawyers, Jared (Alexis) Sawyers, and Christopher (Veronica Nieves) Kohn; great-granddaughter, Michaelene Marie Sawyers; sisters, Diane (John) Kane of Kincheloe, Michigan, Debbie Kelly of Pickford Michigan; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Cruickshank of Sault Ste. Marie and Marjeean Wise of Grandville, Michigan.

Wanda was predeceased by her husband, Vern Sawyers; parents; brother, Donald Cruickshank and sister, Theora Bosley; sisters-in-law, Gayle Kokko; brothers-in-law, Dean Wise, David Seward, Ted Kokko, Robert Bosley, and Richard Hillock.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2022, from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM at Galer Funeral Homes, in Pickford. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM.

Burial will be at Oaklawn Garden Chapel in Bruce Township.
