Philip “Joe” Menard

Philip “Joe” Menard, age 74, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at the Hospice of the EUP – Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family.

Joe was born on February 14, 1948, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI to the late Philip and Lorraine (McCoy) Menard. He married Sharon M. Stafford on July 14, 1990, in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Hopewell and retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Maintenance Lead with over 31 years at the Soo Locks. Joe was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion, and a faithful parishioner as well as employee of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Joe is also a respected and cherished elder of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years: Sharon M. Menard; his children: Tracey Wood of Saginaw, MI, William (Cindy) Geiger of Plainfield, CT, and Veronica (Peter) Anderson of Gwinn, MI; his grandchildren: Levi (Joelene) Wood, Jessica Geiger, Anthony Troup, CJ Troup, Chelsea (Seth) Greenhalgh, Jordan (Cassandra) Jones, Chandler Jones, William Anderson and Weston Anderson; and six great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by five siblings: Al (Joan) Menard of Sault Ste. Marie, Dennis (Carol) Menard of Sugar Island, MI, and Don (Joyce) Menard, Pat Rudis, Marie (Rick) Orsborne all of Sault Ste. Marie and sister-in-law: Deb Menard of Marquette, MI; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers: Eugene Menard and William Menard; grandchild: Brian Geiger.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Hospice of the EUP for their selfless service and dedication to providing the utmost respect and care in his last days.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, March 18, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Romeo as Celebrant. Friends may come to a visitation that same day at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in the spring.
