Jerome Pendell

Jerome Pendell, 90, of Sault Ste. Marie, MI passed away February 3, 2022 in Petoskey, MI. He was born March 14, 1931 in Menominee, MI to Samuel and Martha (Badenski) Pendell.

Jerome worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company for 36 ½ years. When he retired he had plenty of time to play with his grandchildren and grow a huge garden so his wife could can fresh vegetables and make pickles.

Jerome enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, gardening, playing pool and watching hockey games. He was also known to frequent the casino, where everybody knew his name. Jerome was a member of the Nativity Parish where he was an usher and helped with the ham and sauerkraut dinners the Parish held. After the closing of the Nativity Parish he became a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Jerome volunteered at the I-500 Race from the very beginning where he over saw button sales and distribution for many years until switching to the parking committee parking campers and cars. He also volunteered at the Sault Salmon Derby. Jerome worked for the Sault Indians Hockey team and coached hockey for many years in the Sault Amateur Hockey Association. He also enjoyed visiting his friends and relatives in the local assisted living facilities.

Jerome is survived by his son, David (Karen) Pendell; daughter, Dianne (Roger) Minton; sister, Loretta Breen of Washington State; grandchildren, Jennifer (Craig) McDonald, Julie Pendell, and Jacklyn Pendell; great grandchildren, Gavin McDonald, Sadie McDonald, and Piper McDonald.

He is predeceased by his wife, Olive, parents, and many aunts, uncles, and cousin’s.

Visitation will be Thursday February 17, 2022 at 10:00am until the time of the Memorial Mass at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1101 Minneapolis St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, with Father Michael Chenier officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Jerome’s name to St. Mary’s School, 337 Maple St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, Road to Recovery, 500 Osborn Blvd. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, or VFW Post 3676, 401 W. Portage Ave. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Clark Hovie Galer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
