Calvin “Cal” Robert Leavitt

Calvin “Cal” Robert Leavitt, age 66, of Pickford, Michigan, died on February 14, 2022, in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. He was born on February 28, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, to Raymond James and Helen Marie (Barr) Leavitt.

Cal grew up in Topinabee, Michigan, until second grade when his family moved to Pickford, Michigan. He graduated from Pickford High School in 1973 and attended Michigan State University in 1974. He returned to Pickford and started working for State of Michigan as a corrections officer and always helped his brothers with the family farm. He met Frances in 2003, they married on August 27, 2005, at Northern Light Assembly of God in Kincheloe, Michigan and he moved to Kincheloe. He retired in March 2006, after twenty-eight and a half years with the State of Michigan. In 2007, Cal and Fran settled on Pennington Rd, in Pickford.

Cal was a member of The Well Assembly of God in Kincheloe, Michigan and volunteered as a coach for flag football for several years. He also was a member of the Chippewa Shooting Association and worked on the Pickford Ambulance Corp for several years.

Cal was very kind and loved to help the Burntland Farms with anything they needed. He was known as an “uncle to everyone”. Cal enjoyed many hobbies like going fishing and trapping, collecting stamps and pop cans, and working around the farm.

Cal is survived by his wife, Fran; stepdaughter, Carrie (Jeff) Martin and grandchildren, Joshua (Mckensey) Martin, Melaina Martin all of Virginia; stepson, Glen Hall of Pickford, Michigan; sister, Cindy (Lee) Wentzel of Kalamazoo, Michigan; bonus siblings, Judy Campbell, Janet Campbell, James (Lori) Campbell, and Jake (JoEllen) Campbell of Pickford, Michigan; nieces and nephews, Ray (Sarah) Cottle, Dan (Missy) Cottle, Amelia Cottle, Glen Cottle, Cheri (Ben) Bush, Jim Campbell Jr., Chrissy Campbell, Nikki (Travis Michalski) Campbell-Graham, Heather (Mark) Black, Derick (Courtney) Campbell, Tiffany Campbell, Sandy Campbell, Raeann (Kevin) Starr, Chris (Kristie) Leavitt; and great nieces and nephews, Stosh, Cain, Cody, Cora, Chase, Matthew, Laura, Hannah, Kyle, Ellie, Aspyn, Aubrey, Cole, Owen, Cole, and Maryn.

Cal is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen Leavitt; stepfather, Herman Campbell; sisters, Carolyn (Gary) Cottle and Connie Leavitt; and brother, J.L. Leavitt.

Visitation will be held at Galer Funeral Homes and Cremation in Pickford, Michigan, on May 20, 2022, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 P.M.

Burial will follow at Epoufette Cemetery in Epoufette, Michigan.
