Orville Hugh Nutkins

Orville Hugh Nutkins, age 91, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, November 18,2021 at Medilodge Lodge in the Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

Orville was born in Detroit on September 19, 1930, to Edgar and Mina Nutkins. He had two siblings, Beatrice Bishop and Edgar Nutkins.

He grew up in Holland, MI, and moved to the Dafter area where the family worked a farm. He graduated from Soo high where he met the love of his life, Hazel Alexander. They became engaged before he was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean conflict where he served as a bridge builder. He often spoke what a blessing going into the service was, it gave him direction and provided him with the GI bill.

He married Hazel on May 1, 1954, in Sault MI and started a family. Dad took advantage of the GI bill and with sacrifice and hard work on both mom and dad’s part, graduated from Michigan Technology in Houghton, MI and started his career, working for the United States Army as a civilian in the Department of Defense for 30 years in several locations including two tours in Germany.

He enjoyed hunting with friends and family, fishing, woodworking, traveling (but he hated to fly) and his old Cadillac collection.

He loved the being with his family and served Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was passionate about his belief in the Lord. Both he and mom enjoyed teaching and sharing God’s word.

Orville is survived by his children: Susan (James) McLeod, Joan (Michael) Ojala, and Amy Dalsky (Tom Goebel), all of the Sault Ste. Marie; as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

To our Medilodge family thank you for all your love and support through the years.  Orville loved you all.
