President Donald Trump endorsed U.S. Rep. John James in the Republican primary for governor today on a post on Truth Social, saying James will not let Michigan down.
The endorsement could completely reshape the Republican primary where all four candidates have been courting Trump’s support.
In the post Trump said it was his great honor to endorse an American First congressman, touting James’ achievements as a West Point graduate and Iraq War veteran.
“As your next Governor, John will fight tirelessly to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Strengthen our Brave Military/Veterans, Safeguard our Elections, Defend our always under siege Second Amendment, and Advocate for the Working Men and Women of Michigan.”
Opponents in the field have recently slammed James for his seeming disloyalty to Trump in old comments that claimed he believed Trump was “unfit to lead.” The Mission Michigan PAC backing James’ campaign put out their own ad claiming former Attorney General Mike Cox and Perry Johnson did not stand behind the president.
