On May 7th Great Lakes Recovery Centers (GLRC) was awarded $6,400 from the Mackinac Island Community Foundation’s Beaumont Fund, which was created to support health and medical care services and facilities on the island.
GLRC will allocate these funds toward procuring new therapeutic exercise and wellness equipment to support trauma-informed recovery programming at its new Women’s Recovery House in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
This project’s goals are set to enhance recovery services by integrating and expanding therapeutic exercise and physical wellness programming to support mental health, physical health, and long-term recovery outcomes for women at the recovery facility. Integrating this new equipment directly into recovery programming will enable individualized access to a private exercise environment that is supportive and structured for whole-person recovery. The project will support approximately 125 women annually from Mackinac Island, Mackinac County, and surrounding areas, with benefits extending to future participants over multiple years.
GLRC’s Community Relations Coordinator, Tia Webber, says “The wellbeing initiative set by the Mackinac Island Community Foundation is critical for us and the many organizations seeking to address challenges to mental health in the region. This new therapeutic equipment programming will help current and future clients at GLRC by strengthening their path to recovery.
