MANISTEE COUNTY, MI. On January 1 at approximately 9:30 a.m., troopers from the Michigan State
Police (MSP) Cadillac Post responded to a residence on Cadillac Hwy. in Cleon Township for a
residential fire.
Preliminary investigation indicated that after the fire was extinguished by firefighters, they located a
deceased individual inside the residence. This discovery prompted an investigation by the MSP and the
MSP Fire Investigation Unit. Due to the condition of the scene, the deceased individual has not been
positively identified. This investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy will be completed to identify the
individual.
Troopers were assisted by the Maple Crown Township Fire Department, Cleon Township Fire
Department, Bear Lake Fire Department, and Benzie County Fire Department.
