Chippewa County, Michigan. The Michigan State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post is
announcing the arrest and arraignment of 75-year-old Gerard Malkowski from DeTour Village,
following multiple investigations into alleged criminal sexual conduct involving children.
In April of 2025, the MSP Sault Ste. Marie Post received a tip from a tipline regarding potential
criminal sexual activity. Information was provided to MSP alleging that Malkowski engaged in
sexually abusive activity involving a child dating back to 2009.
While investigating the first allegations, MSP Sault Ste. Marie troopers discovered an additional
subject who made similar allegations against Malkowski dating back to 2005. It was alleged that
Malkowski would initially attempt to make juveniles feel comfortable around him by providing
them with things such as alcohol, marijuana, and cigarettes. After this, the alleged abuse would
take place. Troopers subsequently completed a search warrant on Malkowski’s residence.
Digital evidence and a firearm were seized.
On October 29, 2025, troopers located Malkowski at his residence in DeTour Village and took
him into custody on felony warrants that had been issued in connection with the MSP
investigations. Malkowski was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.
On October 31, 2025, Malkowski was arraigned in the 91 st District Court on four (4) counts of
Criminal Sexual Conduct First Degree and one (1) count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Malkowski is being held in the Chippewa County Jail on a one million (1,000,000.00) dollar
bond. He is next due in court on November 20, 2025, for a preliminary examination. The
defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
