MACKINAC ISLAND, MI – At 1:57pm MIFD along with EMS was dispatched for a man who fell down a cliff and had a possible broken arm. Updates from dispatch while units were enroute was that the man was slipping and couldn’t hold on much longer.
Squad 1 went to the top of the cliff to prepare for technical line rescue while Ladder 2 went to the base of the cliff to attempt to reach the man from the road.
Fortunately, Ladder 2 was able to reach the man and FF Joshua Carley ascended the ladder and brought the man down. The man was turned over to EMS. It was said he had about 10 seconds left before letting go.
MIPD assisted as did personnel from the DPW at the water filtration plant who were instrumental in the spotting of the man. As of now the man’s condition is stable. Because of patient confidentiality we’re unable to post pics of the rescue.
While climbing on the cliffs of Mackinac is prohibited, this is the second rescue this year and the 10th in the last 15 years.
