Chippewa County, Michigan. A Sault Ste. Marie man has been arraigned on felony charges of
Possession of Methamphetamine and a misdemeanor traffic charge following his arrest on June
14, 2025.
On June 14, 2025, at approximately 4:03 pm, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP)
Sault Ste. Marie Post observed a vehicle with defective equipment. The vehicle was traveling on
Johnston Street near Easterday Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie. Troopers initiated a traffic stop and
contacted the driver.
The troopers’ following investigation resulted in 41-year-old Derek Gehrke being arrested for
Possession of Methamphetamine, Operating a Vehicle with No Insurance, and a separate
warrant for his arrest. Gehrke was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail for the offenses.
On June 16, 2025, Gehrke was arraigned in the 91 st District Court on one count of Possession
of Methamphetamine and one count of Operating a Vehicle with No Insurance. His bond was
set at $5,000.00 with conditions. He is next due in court on June 30, 2025.
The defendant is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
