Manistee Co ORV Crash Claims Life of 12-year-old

MANISTEE COUNTY, MI. – On May 18 at approximately 1:30 p.m. troopers from the MSP Cadillac Post
responded to Spruce St. near Second St. in village of Wellston for an ORV traffic crash. The preliminary
investigation showed that the driver was traveling west on Second St. and turned south on Spruce St.
The driver then lost control, left the roadway, and rolled onto its side on private property. The ORV was
occupied by two juvenile females, 12 and 14 years old. The driver, a 12-year-old female from Manistee,
was pronounced deceased. The 14-year-old passenger from Irons sustained serious injuries. Drugs and
alcohol are not deemed to be a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing. Updates will be
provided when available.
