Soo Indians split with Compuware on home ice

In Saturday night’s opening game of the MAHA series hosting the Compuware Ambassadors, the Indians came out quick as Carter Huckson scored on a backhand shot early in the first period from Tyler Neveau and Sam Swintek to take the early lead.  Three minutes later Aedan Haapala capitalized on an Indian power play threading a shot from the point past their netminder for the two-goal lead, assisted by Carter Huckson, the Indians weren’t done scoring as Jordan Murray found the net from Lake Pawlanta to give the Indians a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.  In the second period Evan Hoglund stole the puck at center ice and went in to beat the Ambassadors goalie on a shot unassisted.  Compuware scored midway through the period to get on the board, but Deven Jones-McDonald buried a shot on passes from Huckson and Treyce Moran for the 5th goal of the game.  In the third Dominic Cicco scored the only goal of the period banging home a rebound off a shot by Murray to give the Indians the 6-1 lead which they carried to the end of the game.  Isiah Anderson played excellent in net to earn the win for the Indians.

Sunday’s rematch saw a much different game as Evan Hoglund scored early in first period from Dominic Cicco to take the early lead however Compuware came back and answered to even the score at 1-1.  Both teams played even throughout the rest of the game sending it into overtime.  5 minutes in overtime couldn’t decide a winner and it took six shooters to decide the fate of the game for the Ambassadors 2-1.

The Indians head back on the road next weekend to Detroit to play Little Caesars next Saturday and Sunday.
