Big Plays Hurt Blue Devils JV

The Sault High JV football team had their first conference game of the season, hosting the Cadillac Vikings on Thursday night. The lone score of the game for the Blue Devils came during the second quarter when sophomore Caleb Klier scampered down the field and across the goal line. The score was 14-6 at the half, but the Vikings returned to the field ready to play, capitalizing on the Blue Devils’ mistakes and made a number of big plays. The final score was 36-6.

Despite the score, there was a good effort put in by the young Blue Devils team. Coach Hallai discussed the plan for the rest of the season. “We’re definitely seeing progress week to week. Most of the boys have the first part figured out, which is where to go. Now we just need to work more on the second part, executing blocks better and tackling with more technique. We’ve had to spend so much time on the basics with the number of first time players we have and hopefully now we can get into the more detailed, technical parts of being a football player. Marc DeWildt had another outstanding game. (Nick) Causley had a good game on defense as well.”

The young JV team has their first game on the road next week, as they head west to Escanaba for another Big North Conference match up.
