Woman dies in Schoolcraft Co snowmobile accident

On 01/26/2023 at approximately 2:45pm, troopers from the Manistique Outpost and Gladstone Post received a call for a snowmobile crash where a female struck a tree on Trail 413 near Camp 7 Rd. in Schoolcraft County. Michigan State Police troopers, Commercial Motor Vehicle officers, Manistique Public Safety officers, Inwood Fire and Rescue personnel, Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s deputies, and Guardian Flight responded and began life saving measures. The driver, 46-year-old Alain Davis, was pronounced deceased on scene. Davis was from the Charlotte Michigan area. Davis was traveling with her husband who was on a snowmobile near her when the crash occurred.

Davis was traveling east on Trail 413. The trail reached a “Y” intersection and Trail 413 continued north. Davis was unable to negotiate the curve causing her to go off the posted trail. She was unable to get back on the trail and lost control of the snowmobile. Davis then struck several smaller tree stumps sticking out of the snow prior to being ejected off the snowmobile where she struck a tree at a high rate of speed. Alcohol is not considered a factor in this crash.

This crash follows another snowmobile crash in Schoolcraft County earlier in the day where a male subject was traveling too fast for trail conditions. The male subject suffered a broken leg. The Michigan State Police encourages safe and prudent use of snowmobiles. Please always ride within your limits.
