Police arrest local man after tether violation and pursuit

On 10-31-2022, Chippewa County Sheriff Deputies from the Tether Unit found were notified that Steven Allan Perrault, age 41 from Dafter, had removed his tether and fled the area. Perrault had previously been arrested and released on bond with the condition that he ust wear a GPS tether.

Later that evening officers from Sault Ste Marie Police Department found Mr. Perrault in his vehicle in Sault Ste Marie. Perrault fled the area in his vehicle. A Deputy Sheriff immediately pulled in behind Perrault and pursued him being assisted by the Sault PD. Perrault eventually crashed his truck on a two-track trail in the Cottage Park area in Chippewa County. Perrault fled on foot into an isolated wooded area.

Early in the morning of November 1, the Sheriff Office received information that Perault was in his Dafter residence. A felony warrant had already been issued for his arrest and a search of his residence found Perrault hiding inside and he was taken back into custody without incident.

Perrault was lodged in the CCCF for the Felony warrant, on 2 counts of Resisting and Obstructing and Flee and Elude. He is also a Habitual Offender.

On 11-1-2022 Perrault was arraigned on the 3 charges and bond was set at $250,000. Perrault is considered innocent until proven guilty.

Additional reports will be sent to the Prosecutors office for review with additional charges expected.
