Personal injury crash temporarily closes Mackinac Bridge

On Friday, January 07, 2022 at approximately 10:40 AM the Mackinaw City Police Department investigated a traffic crash on the Mackinac Bridge. A vehicle, driven by Scott Bartholomew of Fenton, Michigan along with a passenger was northbound on the Mackinac Bridge when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed the median. Bartholomew was struck by another vehicle southbound on the Bridge being driven by a Jeffrey McCague of Brighton, Michigan.

Bartholomew’s vehicle was hit broadside and eventually stopped leaning on top of the side rail of Bridge. Both him and his passenger received non-life threatening injuries and were transported to local Hospitals for treatment. McCague also received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Mackinac Straits Hospital where he was treated and released.

The Mackinaw City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Emmet EMS, Strais Area EMS, Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department, St. Ignace Police Department, Mackinaw City and St. Ignace Fire Departments, and the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
