Jean Adora Huskey

Jean Adora Huskey, age 88, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on January 4, 2022, at home with her family at her side. She was born May 21, 1933, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Jean was adopted by her parents, Oscar and Susan Roy. On August 19, 1951, she married Arthur Huskey in Moran. Over her life, she worked various jobs including librarian, cook at Evergreen Shores School, and mail carrier. In 1975, she and her husband Art started Art Huskey & Son Excavating which the operated together until Art’s death in 1985. Jean continued to operate the business until she retired in 2015 after 40 years in business.

Jean was heavily involved in her community. She gave her time to Operation Backpack, Hope Chest, Long Term Care, Toys for Tots, Food Pantry, and multiple church functions and events. She was also able to give financial support to many charities and organizations. Jean was named St. Ignace Area Chamber of Commerce “Citizen of the Year” in 1991, received the 2008 Warrior Award from the National Association of Women Business owners for Top 10 Michigan Business Women, and was awarded the LaSalle High School Athletic Hall of Fame Distinguished Service Award. Jean also enjoyed cooking and being outdoors.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who through her immense love, always made sure everyone’s needs were met. She was lovingly referred to Grandma Jean by many.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Pam Huskey (Tom) Sutton of Kinross; son, Kit Huskey of St. Ignace; daughter-in-law, Margaret Huskey of St. Ignace; grandchildren, Casey Morningstar, Krista (Kevin) Bucci, Tyler (Emily) Huskey, and Rachel (David Brown) Huskey and Jamie Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Chance Morningstar, Ellianna and Sylvia Bucci, Elijah and Cameron Huskey, and Arlo Brown.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Art Huskey; infant son, Roger Huskey; sons, Chipper, Tommy, Timmy and Wade Huskey; great grandchild, Bea Brown; and brother, John Roy.

A Memorial Service is being planned for the Spring of 2022.
