Claude Douglas Barriger

Claude Douglas “Doug” Barriger, age 91, of Dafter, MI passed away on January 10, 2022, at home.

Doug was born on November 27, 1930, in Wheatfield Twp, MI to the late Claude D. and Lillian Mae (Shrum) Barriger. He served his country in the US Navy onboard the USS Molala and later the USS Yorktown during the Korean War.  On June 18, 1954, Doug married Ellen Rockwell at the Orchard Lake Presbyterian Church.  He worked for GM for 39 Years mostly as a supervisor but retiring as a coordinator of compensation.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking.  He was an avid reader.  Doug loved being around kids. He hand-crafted wooded cribs and he loved to hear the Amish youth sing.

Doug is survived by his wife: Ellen Barriger; his son: Paul Barriger of Grand Blanc, MI; three grandchildren: Jason Barriger, Kyle Barriger, and Lauren (Nicholas) Jones; and one great-grandchild: Ripley Jones.  He is also survived by two brothers: George Barriger of CA and James (Janet) Barriger of OH.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law: Debra Barriger; and five siblings: Mary Samson, Bob Barriger, Charles Barriger, Nancy Stewart, and Elizabeth Barriger.

Doug’s burial service will be private.
