Steven Robert Wallis

Steven Robert Wallis, age 65, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on November 7, 2021, at his home with his loving wife by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born on January 30, 1956, in Gaylord, Michigan, to Robert Otto and Betty Jane (Pike) Wallis.

Steve grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault Area High School. After High School, Steve began working for Piippo Brothers, before starting as the head mechanic at Ken Graham Trucking. He met Debbie Ann Stain in 1975 and they married on June 17, 1977, at the Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie. In 1978, they moved their home to M-80 where they have resided since. In 1985, Steve started Wallis Diesel and Welding and he operated the business till ill heath forced him to stop in 2021. He loved what he did, and it showed in his quality of work. We thank our loyal customers over the years who have become lasting friendships.

Steve was a member of the Dafter Lions Club where he enjoyed watching the mud runs and operating the grader to pull them out. He donated several hours to the Boy Scout Camp running equipment. He engineered and built the field goal posts for the football field and the retractable basketball hoops for the Pickford Area Athletics. His many fabricating projects will be here forever. After his last cancer diagnosis, he began woodworking projects to keep busy and his talent was again shining through with beautiful tables he made.

Steve had a deep faith and loved the Lord. The last week of his life on earth was such an inspirational testimony to this. His favorite time of year was hunting season and he looked forward to each season to hunt, especially with his sons. He also loved fishing, snowmobiling, and 4-wheelering. He enjoyed operating large equipment and developing properties. Steve loved to cook and was famous for his barbeque ribs. Most of all Steve loved every second he had with his grandchildren and was fighting hard to be here for the birth of his 4th grandchild in the spring. He loved fishing with the girlies in the back yard pond. He was always available for his son’s projects when they needed him; he was very proud of them and their accomplishments. He also would say often that he is the luckiest to have such wonderful daughter in laws and he loved them dearly.

Steve is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Debbie Wallis; sons, Adam (Monique) Wallis and Douglas (Andrea) Wallis both of Shafer, Minnesota; grandchildren, Ivy, Cora, and Amelia Wallis, with one more grandchild due in the spring; mother, Betty Wallis of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; brother, Mike (Lorrie) Wallis of Kinross, Michigan; sister Chris (Jeff) Stacy of Allegan, Michigan; sister, Lori (Jim) Feldpausch of Traverse City, Michigan. He is also survived by brother/sister in laws Phyllis & Don Anderson, Ed & Brenda Stain, Sandy Stain, Sharon & Ed Piroska and Everett Eagle, aunts Dottie Wallis and Shirley Bannerman and several nieces and nephews.

Steve is preceded in death by his father, Robert Wallis; sister, Bobbi Stouffer; uncle, Ronald Wallis; grandparents, Otto & Mildred Wallis, and Bertha & Miner Pike.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer of 2022.
