Martin “Marty” Lewis

Martin Joseph “Marty” Lewis, age 70, of Kincheloe, Michigan passed away Friday evening, April 2, 2021, at Jacobetti Veterans Home.

Marty was born on March 7, 1951, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan the son of the late Alfred “Whitey” and Shirley (Robbins) Lewis.  He graduated from Sault High School with the class of 1970.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1970-1974.  Later, he joined the U.S. Navy from 1976 until 1994, retiring as Military Police.  On April 24, 1986, Marty married Sofia C. Raquel in The Philippines. 

After the military, Marty worked in security at Kewadin Casino from 1994-1999 and finally as a corrections officer at Hiawatha Correctional Facility from 1999-2013.  He enjoyed watching hockey and football, playing video games, bowling, and socializing at the casino.  He loved to spend time with family.  He was a member of the American Legion.

Marty is survived by his wife: Sofia Lewis; his daughter: Tonya Lewis-Dickinson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; and one granddaughter.  He is also survived by five siblings: Nancy Swartz of Alaska, Al Lewis of Minnesota, and Jeff (Rita) Lewis, Betty (Dan) Wyers, and Mary Goodridge all of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; and two sisters-in-law: Laurie Lewis and Tel Fox both of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Jim Lewis, Marge Kinney, Pam Cryderman, Steve Lewis, Bill Lewis, and Jon Lewis.

A private funeral service will be held at C.S. Mulder Funeral Home.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery later this year.
