Dry ground conditions continue to cause fire concerns in the area

A small fire got out of control and spread quickly Sunday afternoon on 10 MIle Road in Chippewa County’s Dafter Township.

The 9-1-1 call came in around 3 O’clock indicating that the out of control fire was threatening a couple structures.

Within an hour, a barn was destroyed and several acres were torched.

The home owner stated that she was burning bat tails around her pond and the fire spread.

Air and ground crews from the DNR assisted Dafter Township Fire Department.

A total of 11.8 acres were scorched.
